Profile: Elizabeth Harvey

Currently: Acquisitions Editor, Divertir Publishing

I first met Professor Reeder when I took his Western Civ. I course and immediately I was hooked. I discovered a deep fascination that I never knew I had. Through careful refinement and rigorous study – encouraged by the excitement and encouragement of Dr. Cooper and Professor Reeder – I developed from a rather confused teenager into a competent and polished adult. I gained skills – not only in the arena of academia, but in life – and insight that I never would have otherwise. For this I am truly thankful.

In the wake of my graduation from college, Dr. Cooper and Professor Reeder’s teachings have enabled me to grasp a job that I had only dreamed of. I currently am the Acquisitions Editor of a budding publishing company, filling the dreams of writers as well as my own dreams of publication. The writing skills, professional polish, etiquette, and research skills I gained while studying with Dr. Cooper and Professor Reeder have become invaluable to me and they are what enabled me to impress my employer enough to gain this job.

Future students, my advice to you is simple: study hard, forget everything you think you know, and question everything. The process of forgetting and unlearning everything that you think you know can be frightening but once you’ve done it, you’ll find it’s one of the most liberating experiences that you can have in life. The freedom you will experience and the excitement to learn will be a driving force that will stay with you for the rest of your educational career and beyond.
